It was noted by the Los Angeles Times among others that Stokke didn't seek nor advocate for such attention. Stokke's posts on social media are often insulting and attributed to the sexualization process to the female athletes. Many others compared Brandi's bra-shy celebration to the FIFA Women's World Cup Final from 1999 in the event she celebrated winning. A discussion about the fashions and appearances dominated the discussion of women's sports achievements. Photographs of Stokke who was competing in New York early 2007, were posted on the web by a Californian journalist for a track and fields website. With Leather, an online sports publication with a lot of male readers, commented on Stokke's attractiveness in this month in May. The story was entitled Pole Vaulting: Sexy and Barely Legal. Matt Ufford, the owner of the site that the image was featured on and threatened with a lawsuit from the photographer in the event that the photo wasn't removed.
